Botobolar Vineyards

Botobolar Vineyard, located in Mudgee in New South Wales, was the very first vineyard to be fully certified organic in Australia. Established in 1971, Botobolar is a 22-hectare vineyard featuring grapes grown without any herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Botobolar is a dryland vineyard well known for their Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Marsanne and Shiraz.

Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyards

Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard, located in Milawa, Victoria, is a family owned wine company that offers a range of wines made from many grape varieties. Brown Brothers was founded by John Francis Brown in 1889 and continues to be operated by his descendants on the same property. They own a variety of vineyards, some of which are over 50 years old, in both Victoria and Tasmania.

Leeuwin Estate

Leeuwin Estate, which was established in 1969, is a winery in the Margaret River wine region that owns over 48 hectares of vineyards and produces about 60,000 cases of wine during each vintage. Leeuwin Estate’s best known wine is the “Art Series Chardonnay.” A large amount of the grapes used to produce this wine are from the “Block 20” vineyard, which was considered by Australian Sommelier Magazine as one of the “Top 25 Australian vineyards. In addition to their wine, Leeuwin Estate also offers an award winning restaurant on their property, as well.

Schiller Vineyards

Schiller Vineyards, in the Barossa Valley wine region of South Australia, is a sixth generation family owned and operated vineyard that was established in 1864. They have 65 hectares of vineyards that they sell to Barossa wine producers for table wines. Some of their plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot, Riesling, Semillon and Shiraz.

Vasse Felix

Vasse Felix, the very first winery and vineyard established in the Margaret River wine region in Western Australia, is a recognized pioneer of the region. It was first established by Dr. Tom Cullity, a cardiologist, in Cowaramup in 1967, and features an award winning restaurant on the property as well. Vasse Felix is recognized for their impressive offerings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

Australian wines are often over looked here in the UK, but I’ve been told by an Australian friend that they actually produce some of the world’s finest wines, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon which grows well in Coonawarra.
